Emerson Buys Aperture for Data Center Technology

Emerson Network Power announced Feb. 25 that it will acquire privately held data center management provider Aperture. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
A spokesperson for Emerson, an IT conglomerate, said that Aperture’s board of directors agreed in principle to the offer to acquire 100 percent of the company’s shares.
It was the second acquisition of a data center management company in one day. Earlier, Novell said that it will acquire virtualization management software and services provider PlateSpin for $205 million in cash.
Aperture makes Aperture Vista, a data center planning and productivity software suite for data centers at Fortune 1000 companies. The 20-year-old company will become part of Emerson Network Power, which produces Liebert AC power, precision cooling and monitoring products, Knurr racks and enclosures, among others.
“As the data center infrastructure and its overall management become critical to meet business demands, data center managers will increasingly require technology resources that allow for-and not impede-growth,” Bob Bauer, Emerson group vice president said. “The combination of Aperture and Liebert products will allow for greater control of these critical spaces and maintain high availability and flexibility.”
The addition of Aperture to Emerson Network Power’s portfolio will enhance Liebert’s product line, Bauer said, as data centers’ physical infrastructure rapidly becomes more complex as a result of increased demand for power and cooling-coupled with technology advancements in IT hardware.
Specifically, the combination of Aperture’s Vista product line and Emerson Network Power’s Liebert AC power, precision cooling and monitoring technologies will enable data center professionals to more easily manage complexity, Bauer said.
Data center managers will be better able to control vital operations and increase the availability of business-critical systems by implementing tools and technologies that help them gain visibility into the dynamics of the infrastructure, Bauer said.

Only three days ago, Aperture launched a new handheld technology for managing the physical infrastructure of the data center. Aperture Vista Data Capture Handheld enables data center management to accurately and predictably collect detailed information about the equipment and resources in the data center.
The new tool allows data center managers to not only accurately capture details of the equipment the organization owns, but also where it is located and how everything is connected.
“Emerson is a highly respected global company with an outstanding pedigree in data center technology solutions,” said Aperture CEO Bill Clifford. “Together, we will also be able to address new markets, such as the emerging demand among small and mid-size data centers for more sophisticated management solutions.”
The acquisition will become final once all Aperture shareholders have agreed to its terms, the spokesperson said.
