Network integrator Xtelesis Corp. on March 18 will launch its drive to take its managed network services nationwide.
The Silicon Valley–based integrator-turned-managed-network-services provider plans to open new sales offices in about a dozen locations across the country over this year to take its remote network management services to a broader range of mid-sized companies.
Unlike other management services providers offering remote monitoring and management of a variety of infrastructure components, Xtelesis is focused solely on LAN and WAN management, according to Scott Strochak, president of the Burlingame, Calif., services firm.
“We do one thing and we do it really well—we build the infrastructure and do the more mundane tasks, like build the WAN, the WAN circuitry, the LAN and then manage it,” he said, referring to the firms professional services capability.
Xtelesis got its start designing and deploying enterprise-wide voice/data networks, and it is an AT&T Solutions Provider agent. Its focus for the MSP service is on small and mid-tier companies that dont have the resources to hire networking experts.
In its focus on network management, Xtelesis provides monitoring as well as troubleshooting and problem resolution across a private network connection from its network operations center in Burlingame to the customers sites.
“We monitor the devices on their network that they want us to monitor, and we do break/fix,” Strochak said. “We start the troubleshooting process to figure out whether (a problem is in) the LAN, WAN and so on. It includes trouble ticketing with the carrier. If it turns out we need somebody onsite, we send them out. Most of the fix work we do is around local loop issues. We work on the customers behalf to provision (local exchange carriers) to do what they need to do to fix local issues.”
The service depends on the size of the customers network and the length of the contract, but average subscriptions are about $50 per monitored device per month.
Over the next six month, Xtelesis is opening offices in Denver; Phoenix; Portland, Ore.; Seattle; and Salt Lake City. Later in the year it will open offices in Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta.
