Apple widens access to its AI-powered future.
The tech giant has released the first public beta versions of its 2027 software updates, opening early access to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 for anyone enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program.
The release marks the first time Apple's redesigned Siri AI is available beyond developer testing, giving a much broader group of eligible users early access to the assistant ahead of its full rollout later this year.
The public beta is based on the latest developer beta builds, meaning it includes most of the features Apple has refined since unveiling the operating systems at WWDC in June.
Siri becomes Apple's answer to modern AI assistants
Siri AI is the centerpiece of Apple's software update.
Instead of handling only basic commands, Siri AI can understand follow-up questions, respond to information displayed on the screen, search a user's personal content such as emails, messages, and photos, and complete actions across multiple apps.
Apple also introduced a dedicated Siri app that preserves conversation history and integrates the assistant into Spotlight and other parts of the operating system.
Siri AI runs on Apple Intelligence and combines on-device Foundation Models with Apple's Private Cloud Compute technology to process requests while protecting user privacy.
The assistant is available only on Apple Intelligence-compatible hardware, including recent iPhones, Apple Silicon Macs, and supported iPads. It currently works only in English, and Apple is not initially making it available in the European Union.
Early users may also encounter a waitlist before gaining access.
AI features spread across Apple's ecosystem
Siri is not the only artificial intelligence upgrade arriving in the public betas.
Photos gains new editing tools such as Spatial Reframing, image extension, and an improved Clean Up feature for removing unwanted objects. Image Playground now supports higher-quality image generation, including more photorealistic styles.
Safari introduces automatic tab organization, along with a Notify Me feature that monitors webpages for price changes and product restocks. Shortcuts can now be created using natural language instead of manually building automation workflows.
Apple has also expanded AI features elsewhere, including writing assistance, Visual Intelligence improvements, and deeper integration across its apps. On Apple Watch, Siri AI arrives alongside updates to Workout Buddy, a redesigned Dynamic App Grid, menopause and perimenopause tracking, and new gesture controls.
Mac users receive Siri AI integrated into Spotlight together with interface refinements in macOS 27 Golden Gate, while iPad users gain Apple Pencil support for Visual Intelligence and faster external storage transfers.
Beyond AI, Apple says the updates deliver noticeable speed improvements throughout its platforms.
According to the company, apps can launch up to 30% faster, newly captured photos may appear in the Photos app up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80% faster. Apple has also updated the Liquid Glass interface introduced last year with improved readability and new customization controls.
Early adopters should proceed carefully
Although Apple has made the software available to the public, the company continues to classify it as beta software.
Users may encounter bugs, unexpected behavior, battery drain, or compatibility issues, making backups highly recommended before installation. Experts advise against installing the beta on a primary work or everyday device until the software matures.
Anyone interested can enroll through Apple's Beta Software Program before downloading the updates through the Software Update section in device settings.
Looking beyond the feature list
Apple's public beta marks an important milestone because it significantly expands real-world testing for Siri AI before the software reaches hundreds of millions of devices later this year.
The wider rollout allows Apple to collect feedback across a much larger range of hardware and everyday usage scenarios, helping identify issues that may not appear during developer testing. That is especially important for Siri AI, which represents Apple's most ambitious attempt yet to compete with conversational assistants from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and other AI developers.
For consumers, the beta offers an early look at Apple's AI direction but comes with the familiar trade-off between stability and access to new features.
Users eager to try Siri AI may find the experience worthwhile, while those who rely on their devices for work or critical tasks may be better served by waiting for the final public release later this year.
