Documentum Inc. this week will release its first digital media content management software applications since it acquired the technology from The Bulldog Group Inc. in December.
The centerpiece is Documentum Media Services, which extends Documentums flagship 4i enterprise content management platform to support digital media, such as photographs and other graphic images, video, and audio.
Documentum Media Services provides automatic identification and registration of media attributes, such as format, compression, color mode and audio duration. It also offers enhanced search capabilities, such as the automatic creation of thumbnails, which make it easier to visually locate and reuse media files, according to Documentum officials in Pleasanton, Calif.
It also adds such features as automatic format transformation, editing capabilities, and video and audio streaming, all without the use of third-party tools.
John Koerwer, manager of design automation at BOC Gases Inc., in Murray Hill, N.J., said his company is looking to take advantage of the technology to manage the photographs and other images it uses for marketing and training materials. Creating thumbnail images manually is a time-consuming process, he said.
“If we can create the thumbnails automatically, it will give us an improved mechanism to deal with our digital assets,” Koerwer said.
