Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a Los Angeles hospital, shut down its computerized physician order entry system in early 2003 after only a few months of use. Hospital staff forced the abandonment of the CPOE system, complaining that it was slow and inefficient. Currently, the hospital is conducting a review of the reasons behind this initial failure. At a recent conference, Cedars-Sinai revealed its findings which included problems with both clinical and administrative workflows.
