Aiming to help storage administrators manage their daily data chaos, Precise Software Solutions Ltd.s W. Quinn Inc. division launched a new version of its storage resource management tool last week.

The software, StorageCentral SRM 5.0, has new features emphasizing usability, reporting and scalability, officials said.

The usability features include preconfigured policy management, management with Microsoft Corp.s Management Console via a Web browser, and support for Windows Active Directory. File blocking and alarm actions are also new.

StorageCentral SRM 5.0 costs $1,295 per server for Windows NT and Windows 2000 Advanced Server and $4,995 per server for Windows 2000 Data Center. Windows XP agents cost $49 per seat. W. Quinn, of Reston, Va., also plans processor-based pricing for next year.
