Microsoft Advances Its ‘Atlas’ Roadmap

We still don’t know exactly when Microsoft is planning to deliver its “Atlas” Ajax tools. But we now know more about the form and the names of the various pieces that comprise Microsoft Atlas. Microsoft is planning to deliver “Atlas 1.0” on top of ASP.Net 2.0 some time before the end of this year. (Our bet? TechEd Barcelona in November.) Ultimately, Microsoft plans to bake Atlas into Visual Studio “Orcas,” due out in 2007. The official name of the server-side Atlas component: ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions. (On the Microsoft naming scale, not bad. At least they incorporated “Ajax” in the name.)
