The fallout from last week’s Patch Tuesday continues. Among the myriad patches Microsoft released last week were, unbeknownst to many, a couple of the first Windows Vista patches. (Update: Not the first, however.) Meanwhile, given Microsoft’s need to give priority to the MS06-040 patch, Microsoft postponed distributing a number of its other “critical” patches, a fact about which many small businesses and home users may still be unaware. Finally, users running Internet Explorer 6 with Service Pack 1 on Windows 2000 and XP systems may be encountering problems with patches in MS06-042; A patch reissue is coming August 22.
