SBC Communications and Yahoo! on Wednesday announced an alliance to provide co-branded broadband access to consumers in SBCs 13-state region, and dial-up service nationwide.

New customers to the service, scheduled to roll out in 2002, will receive a special version of Yahoo! that will include WebCam functionality, multi-player games, enhanced parental controls and additional storage space for mail and photos.

The companies may also jointly develop SBC and Yahoo! services in other areas, such as broadband services for SBCs small and medium enterprise customers.

Yahoo! and SBC said they will promote the new service “in extensive online and offline marketing programs to attract new customers as well as transition SBCs existing customers to the co-branded service,” according to an SBC release.

Yahoo! will get monthly per-subscriber payments from SBC and promotional services. SBC will pick up a share of Yahoo! non-subscriber revenue on advertising, e-commerce and premium features and services on the portal, and Yahoo!s commitment to DSL as its preferred broadband solution.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
