Finding atrocious advertisements in early 90s gaming magazines isnt exactly a trick. Its actually more difficult to find an advert that doesnt assault you with incomprehensible imagery, broken English, overexcited endorsements from people with really bad haircuts, and if youre lucky, jokes at the expense of your hot dog.
It seemed tragic that some of you out there may not have had the chance to have your intelligence insulted, so I thought Id pick out and pass on some of the best ones.
The hard part came when I realized that in the course of picking out the most ludicrous ads Id marked literally every other page in several years worth of EGMs. W
eeding them down to twenty of the best worst ads ever was like Sophies Choice, only instead of choosing which of my own children was closest to my heart I had to pick between mullet-headed guys screaming about Nintendo. Each time I discarded an ad it was like killing a little piece of myself, but in the end we were left with the absolute cream of the crap. At least, until we recover enough to go through the next few years worth of magazines.
