VMware’s private AI stack is getting more usable before all of its surrounding controls are ready.
Broadcom made VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1.1 generally available on September 3, 2026, with Multi-Tenant Model Sharing among its new capabilities. The feature lets separate business units consume shared AI models while keeping their private data isolated in separate namespaces.
Several surrounding pieces of Broadcom’s private-AI architecture are less mature. A centralized GitOps service and native S3-compatible object storage remain Tech Preview capabilities, while an AI Gateway, Secure Agent Framework, and Model Autoscaling are slated for future releases.
Shared models move into VCF 9.1.1
Broadcom’s VCF 9.1.1 announcement says Multi-Tenant Model Sharing allows models to serve separate tenants or lines of business while preserving data privacy. Broadcom says the approach can eliminate redundant model copies and wasted GPU allocation, though it has not published independent cost or utilization benchmarks for the feature.
VCF 9.1.1 also introduces an AI Assistant for VCF Operations. Administrators can configure it with models running through Private AI Services or a private Google Gemini instance, then use natural-language queries to troubleshoot VCF health, correlate alerts, configurations, and logs, and build management packs without API expertise.
The infrastructure pressure behind these additions is already visible. A Google Cloud survey of 1,402 IT leaders found that 83% said their infrastructure needed upgrades for production-grade agentic AI, while 79% named security, governance, and MLOps as their leading challenge. Separate research has also documented an enterprise AI governance gap as organizations move AI systems into production.
GitOps and storage remain in preview as AI controls come later
The new VCF GitOps Service, which integrates Argo CD into VCF Automation for organization users, remains a Tech Preview. Broadcom says the existing Argo CD supervisor service introduced with VCF 9.0.1 remains supported for production use.
Native S3-compatible vSAN Object Storage is also a Tech Preview. Broadcom first detailed the capability in May as a way to provide object storage alongside block and file services on the same vSAN cluster.
Broadcom separately lists the AI Gateway, Secure Agent Framework, and Model Autoscaling as future-release capabilities. The planned functions cover prompt routing and usage controls, agent sandboxing and tool permissions, and automatic model scaling. Google DeepMind’s roadmap for controlling advanced AI agents similarly emphasizes monitoring, access restrictions, and mechanisms for blocking risky actions.

Broadcom’s September 3 documentation puts its AI capabilities at different stages of maturity. The VCF 9.1.1 GA announcement presents Multi-Tenant Model Sharing as available now, while GitOps and native object storage remain Tech Preview features. The AI Gateway, Secure Agent Framework, and Model Autoscaling are explicitly reserved for future releases.
One documentation inconsistency remains. Broadcom’s separate VMware AI Factory post says Model Runtime “will be enhanced” for multi-tenant sharing, even though the VCF 9.1.1 announcement lists model sharing as part of the available release. That does not negate the GA announcement, but enterprises should confirm the required Private AI Services version and licensing terms before making the capability part of a production deployment.
VCF 9.1.1 therefore offers a current path to shared private-model infrastructure and AI-assisted operations, while agent governance, autoscaling, centralized GitOps, and native object storage remain at earlier maturity stages.
