Dell and Citrix are collaborating to certify Dell desktops and network laser printers to work with Citrixs Presentation Server, according to a letter to Dells Salesforce made public Nov. 12.
The certification guarantees print actions translate properly over Presentation Server and do not result in a failure to print, missing functions, like a color printer printing only in black and white, or a duplexing printer refusing to do a two-sided print, said Orlando Lacayo, product manager for the U.S. region, Dell.
The Dell printers, now rolling out for all Dell lasers in the mainstream advanced and performance lines of single-function mono and color printers—the Dell 1720/1720dn, 5210n/5310n, 3110cn and Dell 5110cn, except for the 3115cn color multifunction device, which will be certified early in 2008—are the first printers to receive such certification. Certification covers new and existing versions on this line.
Customers are opting to use Presentation Server to print locally or from a network without having any local print drivers installed, said Chris Fleck, vice president, Platform Development, Citrix Systems.
“Frequently, printing is an afterthought,” Fleck said. “Companies will recognize the benefit of centralizing their applications and not having to install them locally. But you have to look at the other aspects that are part of the normal work flow, like printing.”
