Handspring Appoints New CFO

Handheld computer maker Handspring Inc. on Tuesday announced it had appointed a new chief financial officer.

William Slakey, 44, will take the CFO position on Sept. 30, according to officials at the Mountain View, Calif., company.

Slakey most recently was CFO at WJ Communications Inc., a semiconductor company. Prior to that, Slakey was CFO at SnapTrack, an offshoot of Qualcomm Corp. that was among the first to develop tracking systems for finding wireless devices. Hes also held positions at 3Com Corp.s Palm division and at Apple Computer Inc.

Slakey replaces Bernard Whitney, who left his CFO post at Handspring on June 30, the end of the companys fiscal year.
