Hewlett-Packard Co. is introducing a new lineup of business desktop PCs designed to make it easier for customers to find and pick what they need.
Along with the introduction of the new product lines—the HP Compaq 2000, 5000 and 7000 series—the Palo Alto, Calif., company on Tuesday also rolled out the first two computers in the revamped lineup.
“We got feedback from customers that they would like a simple lineup and a wide range of products that were stable,” said Vicki Ward, product marketing manager for North America for HPs Personal Systems Group. “[With the new lines], customers can quickly and easily look at a lineup and choose whats right for them.”
Currently, HPs business desktops are found in the HP Compaq d200 and d300 series for SMB (small and midsize business) customers and the d500 series for enterprise users. The new product lineups include the 2000 series for basic systems, the 5000 for midrange users and the 7000 for more advanced needs, Ward said.
The first of the 7000 series will appear in late summer, she said.
The dx2000, the first in the 2000 series, has a microtower form factor that can come pre-configured. Alternatively, users can choose between using a Celeron chip or a Pentium 4 processor with HyperThreading technology from Intel Corp.
The Pentium chip can come with up to 3GHz, an 80GB hard drive and 1GB of memory. The desktop also can run Microsoft Corp.s Windows or MandrakeSoft SAs Mandrake Linux operating systems.
The dc5000 comes with a 12-month lifecycle and a software image that will be common with all systems across the 5000 line. It also comes with HPs Lifecycle Solutions manageability tools, which enable easier deployment into business networks.
The dc5000 comes in a microtower or small-form-factor configuration and also can be pre-configured or customized with Celeron or Pentium 4 chips. It also offers up to a 160GB hard drive and 4GB of memory. In addition, it has tool-less access to internal components for easier maintenance.
The 7000 series will offer added security features—such as TCPA support and remote hood sensors— management offerings, and a product lifecycle of 18 months.
Both the dx2000 and dc5000 are available now, with pricing starting at $389 and $599, respectively.
