Hewlett-Packard Inc. came out Jan. 31 with two new mobile thin clients that certainly look like any other laptop one can find at Best Buy or on any online retail site you can name.

There’s a different twist this time, however: One of the two thin clients doesn’t come installed with Windows 10. We’ll explain.

The unusually named HP mt43 and HP mt20 machines are aimed a range of enterprise use cases and designed to bring enough computing power and graphics capabilities to users working on tasks in cloud-computing environments.

The 14-inch-screen HP mt43 Mobile Thin Client is crafted with premium materials for a thin, light look and feel; it features a backlit keyboard, large-format glass touchpad and HP’s Bang & Olufsen audio system.

      Built Tough for Travel

This thin client is designed to be tough enough for travel. The HP mt43 features a 14-inch diagonal LED backlit FHD anti-glare display; plus AMD PRO A8-9600 APU (up to 3.0 GHz) with Radeon R5 Graphics. The unit comes preinstalled with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise for Thin Clients.

The mt20 Mobile Thin Client (pictured) is the different one. It also has a 14-inch high-definition display, full-sized keyboard, built-in speakers and microphone, and a high-definition 720p webcam for optimal mobile collaboration, HP said.

The HP mt20 also offers a battery designed for daylong work to go with a pre-installed Linux-based OS. This thin client features the Intel Celeron 3865 Processor (1.8 GHz dual core) with Intel HD Graphics. Other operating systems available include HP ThinPro/Smart Zero Core and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise for Thin Clients.

      Key Features

HP Thin Clients all include the following features:

—HP Device Manager: Allows users to configure, manage, maintain and update their install base and security certificate assignments all from one interface.
—HP Velocity: Optimizes the user experience for virtualized apps and is especially suited to challenging network environments.
—HP True Graphics: Allows users to view and curate cloud-based multimedia content the way it was intended, with smooth video, high frame rates and real-time interactivity.
—HP Easy Shell: Provides a streamlined experience for HP Thin Client Windows Embedded environments.

The HP mt43 and mt20 mobile thin clients are available now and have estimated U.S. starting prices of $799 and $399, HP said. For more information, go here.
