Xerox Corp. on Monday unveiled two new monochrome multifunction machines for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and small workgroups.

The WorkCentre M20, for $1,649, allows copying, printing and color scanning. The WorkCentre M20i, priced at $2,199, adds support for Ethernet, scan-to-e-mail, and color faxing capabilities. The M20 can be network-configured for additional cost.

The units print at 22 pages per minute (ppm), with a first-copy-out time of about 9 seconds.

The machines allow two-sided printing and can also copy both sides of a document onto one side of paper. Xerox spokeswoman Joy Lipari said this feature is ideal for copying two-sided documents such as licenses and ID cards.

A 550-sheet tray accommodates both letter and legal-size paper; an additional 550-sheet tray costs $295.

The machines ship with software for creating PDF files from scanned documents and for converting paper and PDF files into editable electronic documents.

Xerox, headquartered in Stamford, Conn., calculates cost per page at about 2.2 cents.

Kevin Draz, application engineer with Xeroxs Wilsonville, Ore., facilities said these units bring the functionality of larger MFPs to the desktop, while keeping the product easy to use.
