Xerox on June 19 released its Phaser 3200MFP, a black and white multifunction printer designed to remove printing altogether from previously print-laden tasks such as faxing and two-sided copying.

The $399 printer routes faxes directly from PCs or to PCs, eliminating the need to print and allows users to copy both sides of a document to a single sheet in a single step, shaving time from tasks and paper from the budget, Xerox officials said.

“People want to finish tasks in fewer steps without having to leave their desk,” said Russell Peacock, president of Xerox, based in Stamford, Conn.

It also allows users to use PINs to release faxes, adding a layer of security.
