Google may not be redesigning itself as Yahoo anytime soon, but it has started to offer some more personal touches to Google Personalized Homepage (GPH).
Starting today you can choose from seven theme images to grace the top area of your GPH. The themes change appearances depending on the time of day in your zip code.
As Greg Sterling notes over at Search Engine Land, the changes to GPH follow a flurry of activity among competing personal homepagesAOL recently launched MyNetscape; Pageflakes released “universal video widgets.” The new MyYahoo launched. And yesterday Netvibes unveiled “Coriander,” its latest release with new content modules.
Personally, I’m not a big fan of the homepage idea. While I understand they’re popular, I simply find it easier to have my feed reader and e-mail open in different tabs.
