Earlier today, eWEEK published this slide show of Google’s April Fools’ Day gags.
Most are, as they say, corny or trite. My personal favorite is the Google Translate for Animals. This video, where a farmer walks around catching his livestock’s noises on a smartphone, is great.
Of course, Google would roll out more gags after we ran this piece.
Take the new Google rewards program, ReaderAdvantageâ¢, in which Reader users get a point for every item they read. Like frequent flyer miles for Google Reader. Check it out here and see these badges:
Next, Google engineers found a third dimension in Google Street View:
You need a pair of red-cyan glasses. Then go to Google Maps and enter your favorite spot in Street View. The third dimension will appear! Supposedly.
Finally, the Google Chrome team today offered this “audio-driven user interface for our users” in the form of the Chrome Sound extension:
Next year, Google said, it will add Chrome access through users’ sense of smell.
Ridiculous? Undoubtedly, but what’s wrong with a little fun heading into the first April weekend. What’s your favorite April Fools’ gag and why?
