Computer Associates International Inc. is reaching out to small and midsize businesses with a new line of software suites that integrate security, storage and data migration tools.

This week, the Islandia, N.Y., company plans to unveil its Protection Suites r2.0, six suites for desktops, servers, and mixed desktop and server environments, including versions that can be used with Microsoft Corp.s Windows Small Business Server. The suites will make it easy for companies with small or nonexistent IT departments to deploy and use technology to scan for viruses and spyware and set up backups of critical data, said David Luft, senior vice president of product development at CAs SMB Program Office.

The suites offer a common Web interface for managing data backups, users, security policies and reports. A graphical dashboard integrates information from the suites tools, CA officials said.

CA is also selling Business Protection Suite for Medium Business—Windows Edition for customers using Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and MOM (Microsoft Operations Manager) 2005 Workgroup Edition.

The new suites are intended to address concerns about corporate data loss and theft, said Gary McGuire, vice president of product management for CAs SMB Program Office.

The Protection Suites are available now. They cost $325 to $1,099 for a five-user license. Business Protection Suite for Medium Business—Windows Edition costs $6,995 for a 50-user license.
