Messaging security vendor CipherTrust Inc. this week will roll out a new appliance that stops spam and other unwanted messages before they hit corporate networks, according to company officials.
The company also is releasing the newest version of its flagship IronMail e-mail security gateway appliance, which now includes tighter integration with CipherTrusts TrustedSource engine and better reporting options.
The new IronMail Edge appliance uses intelligence gleaned from CipherTrusts TrustedSource reputation engine to block suspect messages before they get onto the network. It also requires senders of suspicious e-mail to resend their messages.
By stopping the messages before they get to the network, enterprises can reduce the number of mail servers, gateways and network bandwidth needed, said Alex Hernandez, director of advanced product development for CipherTrust, in Alpharetta, Ga. The device also provides storage and forwarding capabilities if a corporations mail transfer agent fails. The appliance can be used with the IronMail Gateway appliance or other gateway appliances and e-mail servers.
“Were excited about what [the Edge appliance] can do for us in limiting traffic and blocking unwanted spam at a new level,” said Charlie Gautreaux, server administrator for Charlotte Pipe & Foundry Co., in Charlotte, N.C.
Gautreaux said the new features in Version 6.0 of the IronMail Gateway appliance, which CipherTrust also will release this week, are welcome improvements. New customization features in the dashboard allow IT administrators to tweak it for their specific needs.
The IronMail Gateway 6.0 appliance adds improved interaction with Microsoft Corp.s Active Directory for address parsing and group synchronization. CipherTrust also is providing a free portal to let IT administrators obtain information about sender reputation by domain and IP address. The portal provides information such as senders authentication standards, current and historical reputation, sending patterns, country of origin, network ownership, and hosts for known senders for each domain.
Pricing for the IronMail Gateway device starts at $5,995, and pricing for the IronMail Edge appliance starts at $9,995.
