IBM has updated its IBM Security Access Manager to deliver a solution with stronger security for Web, cloud and mobile environments.

The new release, known as ISAM 7.0, is now available as an appliance, IBM said in a recent blog post. ISAM 7.0—no, not the old Indexed Sequential Access Method (ISAM) for mainframes—is a scalable and configurable Web access management solution that helps clients secure and observe user access across a variety of Web applications and services, IBM said.

In addition, it simplifies previously complex operations by centralizing user authentication and authorization management for online portals, integrates real-time threat intelligence and helps protect the corporate Web applications against Web vulnerabilities.

IBM Security Access Manager for Cloud and Mobile extends user access protection to mobile and cloud environments using federated single sign-on, user authentication and risk scoring. IBM Security Access Manager for Cloud and Mobile provides context-based access management for mobile endpoints such as smartphones and tablets so that users do not inadvertently expose an enterprise’s sensitive IT assets in an insecure environment. It also provides authentication and authorization of mobile app users and devices with advanced session management, with supported integration with IBM WorkLight.

IBM Security Access Manager 7.0 helps organizations secure and observe user access across a wide variety of Web applications and services; simplifies previously complex operations by centralizing user authentication and authorization management for online portals; integrates real-time threat intelligence; and helps protect customers against Web vulnerabilities. The offering is designed to improve an organization’s security and bottom line, scales to support tens of millions of users, and provides broad integration and configuration flexibility.

“Adopting cloud and mobile services, while largely beneficial, [has] also had a tremendous impact on how businesses shape their security strategies as these services change the nature of what is considered ‘traditional security perimeters'” IBM said in the post. “They open organizations to new avenues for Web vulnerabilities and targeted attacks that may not have been encountered in the past, and often these security strategies aren’t adjusted until a weakness has been identified or a breach occurs.”

Moreover, IBM said it can be a difficult process to address these new security challenges beyond the traditional security perimeter, and as cloud, social and mobile computing become more pervasive, the security issues also increase in frequency.

IBM Business Partner SafeNet has also announced that IBM Security Access Manager will function as an enforcement point for their existing strong authentication solutions.

Known as “The Data Protection Company,” SafeNet is a leading global provider of data protection. For more than 25 years, Fortune 500 corporations and government agencies have turned to SafeNet to secure and protect their most valuable data assets and intellectual property, the company said.
