Research firm Gartner Inc. said 90 percent of mobile devices lack the protection necessary to ward off hackers. The top security threat to mobile users is loss of a mobile device containing corporate data.

Some key tactics to improving wireless security, according to Gartner, include moving mobile devices into the PC support group, installing PDA firewalls, implementing cost controls and purchasing mobile management tools.
