Businesses are allocating more of their IT budget for printers than network security, according to a report from IDC.

Firms spent $42 billion in 2003 in security products, less than five percent of total IT expenses. Printers and multifunctional peripherals came in at $43 billion.

The study warns that breaches of security affect businesses in lost productivity, financial losses, regulatory compliance and shareholder value.
