Check Point Software Technologies, a Redwood City, Calif., company that specializes in security software, announced Nov. 7 the release of the ZoneAlarm Secure Wireless Router Z100G.
“Typical home wireless routers only include the most rudimentary security features, giving consumers a false sense of invincibility,” said Laura Yecies, general manager of Check Points consumer and small-business division, in a company statement. “Now, consumers can take advantage of essentially the same security technologies used to protect the Fortune 500 while experiencing all the conveniences of a powerful wireless home network.”
Allison Wagda, a Check Point representative, told eWEEK that “the ZoneAlarm Z100G takes Check Points renowned enterprise security expertise and delivers a new product to help consumers combat threats.”
The company claims its ZoneAlarm Secure Wireless router will allow users to browse the Web while being secure from hackers, viruses and other harmful computer agents, as the product provides users with the following features:
- firewall inspections;
- intrusion detection and prevention;
- VStream Gateway Antivirus; and
- secure remote desktop.
“By combining desktop software like the ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite with a secure gateway, consumers have several layers of defense,” said Yecies in the same statement. “This ensures that hackers are thwarted regardless of the type of attack, such as spyware, rootkits, viruses and more.”
“Consumers will benefit from the confidence to wirelessly network their home without risking the security of their data,” Wagda said.
The new ZoneAlarm Secure Wireless Router, which will be sold as a stand-alone appliance or bundled with five copies of the ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite software, will be available in late November for $199.95. However, a special promotional rate of $149.95 will be available through Dec. 31, 2006.
