Security vendors eEye Digital Security Inc. and eSecurity Inc. are set to announce a partnership to deliver vulnerability assessment and event correlation in one solution.
The solution will be based on eEyes Retina vulnerability scanner and eSecuritys namesake security event management console. Customers will be able to launch vulnerability scans from the eSecurity console, and the results of the scans will be integrated with the rest of the data coming in. The goal is to give security specialists the ability to respond as quickly as possible to emerging threats and determine whether any of their machines are at risk.
For example, if an IDS system reports an attempted buffer overrun attack on a specific machine in the network, the security specialist can launch an immediate scan of the machine to see whether its vulnerable to that attack.
Eeye, based in Aliso Viejo, Calif., made its name on vulnerability assessment, a discipline that company officials said has been dismissed somewhat by security specialists and CIOs as something they should do once or twice a year and then forget about. Eeye officials hope that the alliance with eSecurity will help establish vulnerability assessments and their results as vital to enterprise security.
The companies plan to launch the partnership in January, and eSecurity, based in Vienna, Va., will include a one-click way to launch Retina scans in future versions of its product.
