Microsofts naming police seem to thrive on confusing product names. Remember Software Update Services, a k a “SUS”? It seems Microsoft has decided to rename SUS “Windows Update Services.” Windows Update Services is not the same as Windows Update, from what we can tell. Nor is it the same product/technology as Microsoft Update, yet another patching mechanism Microsoft has promised to deliver later this year. For what its worth, Microsoft announced on Tuesday that the beta of the second version of Windows Update Services (formerly known as SUS 2.0) is on its way to testers.
