As part of Hewlett-Packard’s corporate split in 2015 into two companies, security landed in the newly formed Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) business. Helping to lead HPE’s security business is Sue Barsamian, senior vice president and general manager of Enterprise Security Products at HPE, setting the direction for the road ahead.
In a video interview with eWEEK, Barsamian talks about how the HP split is impacting the security business in a positive way and where the business is headed.
“We’re very focused on the security operations center as one our strategic pillars on the product side,” Barsamian said.
Barsamian added that HPE is also very focused on getting better at building protection into the things that matter.
“What matters is to protect what the adversaries are after: your users, your applications and your data,” Barsamian said.
While building product for customers is at the core of HPE’s security business, HPE’s toughest customer according to Barsamian is HPE itself. HPE runs one of the world’s largest Security Operations Center (SOCs) to protect and manage its own infrastructure and it’s also a proving ground for HPE’s own security technologies.
Building in security from the ground up is also directly aligned with HPE’s x86 server business. The ability to secure from the infrastructure up to the application and the data layer is seen by Barsamian as being a key differentiator for HPE’s security business. She added that in the software-defined data center of the future, x86 sits not just under compute, but as the basis of software-defined storage and networking as well.
“This is a significant space in terms of its importance to life as we know it and making sure that we can help our customers to secure their environments,” Barsamian said.
