Linux wannabes can take the Linux Professional Institute certification test for free at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, next week at the Jacob K. Javitz Convention Center, in New York.

The test, which otherwise costs $100 in the United States, will be offered in Room 1E04 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22; Thursday, Jan. 23; and Friday, Jan. 24. Candidates must pre-register by clicking hereto receive an LPI registration number. Candidates who pass the free tests will be eligible to receive either the LPIC (Linux Professional Institute Certification) 101 or 102 designation.

LPI has delivered over 20,000 Level 1 and Level 2 certification exams globally since the programs inception two years ago and is looking to LinuxWorld to up the tally even further. “This is a tremendous opportunity to build a pool of LPI certified professionals,” said LPI President Evan Leibovitch, in a statement. “Because there will be hundreds of potential certifiable candidates at the conference, we recognize this is an excellent way to get the word out that a healthy certified body of Linux professionals clearly supports integration of the platform within the enterprise.”

Those IT professionals who havent received training yet might want to check out the Linux training courses being offered by The Open Source Development Group, an open-source software training company. OSDG is offering certification exam vouchers as part of its Linux training courses until March 15. The free vouchers are redeemable at any testing facility offering LPI certification exams, including Prometric and VUE testing facilities.
