Anti-malware solutions specialist Bitdefender announced the release of GravityZone-in-a-Box, a consolidated management platform designed to protect and improve performance for small to midsize businesses (SMBs) that require security solutions for virtual, physical and mobile environments.
The solution, which comes as a single virtual appliance that can be imported with little complexity and quickly, is integrated with VMware vCenter, Citrix XenServer and Microsoft Active Directory.
“GravityZone-in-a-Box is tailored from start to finish for SMBs,” Bitdefender chief security strategist, Catalin Cosoi, said in a statement. “We designed it to offer the world’s most effective protection, while ensuring that companies without large IT departments can deploy it easily and quickly to free up resources for SMBs’ core activities.”
GravityZone-in-a-Box, a Citrix Ready security solution verified for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI)-in-a-Box, secures up to 250 endpoints, allows companies to manage security for virtual desktops and servers as well as physical and mobile endpoints.
The company said this would help streamline management and resolves security headaches often suffered by SMBs adopting bring your own device (BYOD) policies for mobile devices.
The platform-agnostic technology simplifies antivirus security management and updates, increases server consolidation ratios and prevents common problems such as AV storms and boot-time security gaps. An AV storm is the demand on computing resources that occurs when antivirus software simultaneously scans multiple guest virtual machines on a single physical host.
In addition, the Bitdefender scan offload technology used in virtual environments can also be used in GZiaB to minimize the data footprint on physical laptops or servers (including Linux), which helps eliminate computer slowdown complaints and issues while ensuring a good level of protection.
In August the company released Bitdefender Mobile Security to protect Google Android devices from malware and keep users up to date on what your apps might be doing with their personal data.
The platform includes Privacy Advisor, a feature that lets device owners monitor suspicious apps that endanger privacy, handle sensitive data carelessly, deliver unwanted spam and access private information. Privacy Advisor enhances the other features of Mobile Security, including on-demand scanning, remote locking with Anti-Theft, minimized battery impact.
Compromise of employee and customer information due to mobile security issues increased substantially over last year, potentially jeopardizing an organization’s most valuable relationships, according to a PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) survey based on responses from 456 senior telecom executives.
Also significant was a near doubling of loss or damage of internal records. Just 4 percent of respondents reported security incidents perpetrated by foreign nation-states, with hackers representing a much more likely danger, attributed to 37 percent of incidents.
