Wired and wireless networking and network and direct attached storage solutions specialist Buffalo Americas announced the LinkStation 420 Network Video Recorder (NVR) with embedded support for Axis Camera Companion, providing integration of network attached storage (NAS) devices with Axis surveillance cameras and video management software.
The LinkStation 420 NVR surveillance solution is optimized to deliver video surveillance functionality with support for up to eight HD Axis cameras, and it also provides redundant dual drive NVR technology, eliminating downtime during hard disk drive (HDD) failures.
Axis provides advanced network cameras featuring a variety of capabilities. Unlike traditional IP camera networks, Axis cameras can be configured to record directly to NAS devices without any Video Management Software (VMS) running on the NAS.
The appliance is equipped with two specially designed NAS Edition hard drives designed for year-long recording and allows months of continuous 24/7 recordings of up to eight HD cameras.
Buffalo is also offering a three-year warranty and 24/7 U.S.-based technical support for life with a dedicated toll-free line for surveillance products.
The LinkStation 420 NVR will be available in the second quarter at an estimated price of $399.99 for the 2TB model, $499.99 for the 4TB model and $749.99 for the 8TB model.

Network attached storage solutions allow users to easily protect and manage these digital files,” Matt Dargis, chief operating officer of Buffalo Americas, said in a statement. “The LinkStation 420 NVR with AXIS Camera Companion support provides a simple way to set up video surveillance solutions and configure Axis cameras to record directly to a NAS device.”
The Camera Companion determines the number of cameras on the network and allows the user to select which cameras to manage. Once selected, Camera Companion communicates with the NAS and automatically sets up quotas, users and shares and then automatically configures the cameras to connect to the NAS.
The Camera Companion software also makes it possible to configure an Axis camera to record to a NAS or PC Server and can be used for live viewing and accessing recorded content.
Axis created the One-Click feature within the Camera Companion to simplify deployment of a camera network, allowing specially designed Buffalo and Axis products to communicate with each other.
