DT Research, a designer and manufacturer of purpose-built computing solutions, announced the 2-in-1 Ultra Rugged Tablets for its DT301 and DT311 series, built to withstand extreme outdoor environments.

The tablets come with customizable options built into a slim, lightweight design and offer indoor-outdoor versatility with water-resistant detachable keyboards, internal hot-swappable batteries and advanced hardware-software security with two Full HD screen-size options.

Kevin Tsai, senior product engineer at DT Research, told eWEEK the tablets are suited for the military, industrial purposes, emergency workers and first responders, fieldwork specialists, construction companies and others who work in extreme environments.

“Balancing the need for rugged design with the desire for portability and compactness is a key focus for our business,” Tsai said. “We’ve been working on the balance between rugged and portability for decades and understand that a well-designed, completely integrated hardware and software approach is the answer to delivering a slim, lightweight, yet highly durable mobile computing device.”

The DT301S is a fanless tablet that weighs 2.86 pounds with all options fully integrated and features a 10.1-inch display with 1920 by1200 resolution, which supports a capacitive touch stylus or a digital pen.

Customers can choose either an Intel 6th Generation Core i5 or Core i7 CPU with 4GB or 8GB RAM running Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Enterprise OS or Windows 7 Professional.

The DT311H tablet has a larger 11.6-inch display with 1920×1080 resolution, weighs 3.6 pounds and also supports a capacitive touch stylus or digital pen. Customers have a CPU choice of Intel Core i5 or Core i7 with 8GB or 16GB RAM running Windows 10 IoT Enterprise OS or Windows 7 Professional.

The DT301S and DT311H take advantage of advanced Windows 10 IoT Enterprise OS security, including Device Guard enterprise hardware and software security features that only allow the tablet to run trusted applications with Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 and 2.0 support.

The DT301S and DT311H include Lock Down features to protect against malicious users, which also provide a custom-designed user experience and increase system reliability.

DT Research combines the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise software security with its proprietary hardware security, such as media sanitization option that supports both NSA and USA-AF/Navy/Army standards.

Hardware security options also include camera privacy mode, instant blackout and automatic Bluetooth, RFID and Wi-Fi disable functions that can be preconfigured to turn off all radio capabilities under certain conditions.

“We take great pride in our expertise in hardware and software integration,” Tsai said. “We are the only company that designs and manufactures purpose-built computing solutions for vertical markets with customizable options that contain our signature fully integrated design.”
