Dynamic Network Services, a Domain Name System provider, announced the release of Content Delivery Network Manager, aimed at cost-conscious companies that require Website traffic routing and global server load balancing.
CDN Manager is built on the Dynect Platform’s global DNS server network. Using IP anycast technology and a global footprint of 12 points of presence worldwide, the solution decreases DNS latency and results in faster resolution.
The company said the Dynect Platform CDN Manager offers three main benefits: costs savings when compared with using only a Tier 1 CDN provider, improved performance due to further redundancy with multiple CDN players, and the ability to test multiple CDNs at once to determine peak performance formulas and traffic bleed-over.
“The Dynect Platform’s CDN Manager lets customers take advantage of multiple CDN providers simultaneously, rather than relying on just one,” said Tom Daly, CTO of Dyn. “By evenly distributing traffic to the nearest CDNs using CDN Manager, customers can adjust the amount of traffic sent to each CDN and set specific parameters for distribution and routing.”
The company noted over the last few months, many current Dyn customers including Twitter, Homeaway, Zappos, Gigya and Wikia have offered feedback and possible use cases of CDN Manager or field-tested the solution prior to today’s public launch. Artur Bergman, vice president of engineering and operations from Wikia, said he is using CDN Manager to send European traffic to Wikia’s traffic managed DNS endpoint and American traffic to its CDN.
“It’s been great to play a part in Dynect’s continued evolution, as we used to do DNS and GSLB ourselves for many years,” he said. “The biggest selling point for us was the 100 ms in average connection time cut that switching to Dynect for a new visitor meant to us. That and the automatic failover between data centers allow us to handle downtime without issue.”
