Cyber-security and system recovery applications developer Sampan Security announced the availability of FireTower Guard Business and Business Enhanced for Windows 8/7/Vista/XP and Windows Server 2003/2008/2012, which expand on the security technology introduced in the consumer-oriented FireTower Guard Personal.

FireTower Guard Business and Business Enhanced are tailored for enterprise PC networks that are often targeted by hackers collectively known as Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs). APT campaigns frequently make use of spear-phishing tactics because they are essential to get high-ranking targets to open phishing emails.

For example, a company’s LinkedIn page will provide the names of employees, and one of those individual’s publicly available LinkedIn page may reveal his or her corporate email address. The person’s Facebook profile may include details about their personal life. From there, it isn’t difficult for a criminal to create a personalized spear-phishing attack with enough information to appear genuine.

FireTower Guard Business protects against the theft of proprietary information and disruption of operations, and is designed to reduce the cost of information security and facilitates the containment and recovery of network intrusions. The solution is offered as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) subscription-based service designed for small and midsize businesses (SMBs). FireTower Guard Business Enhanced is a complete on-site solution for large business networks with strict privacy requirements.

FireTower Guard also comes equipped with Cyber Console (CyCon), a central network management tool for monitoring and managing networks of FireTower Guard-protected PCs. CyCon allows security administrators to detect and contain malware on endpoint PCs while automatically data-mining at-risk PCs to improve situational awareness and enhance network-wide security.

Designed as a Web application, CyCon can be accessed through an Internet browser on any PC or tablet with administration login and password credentials. From there, it can be used to access information of all connected FireTower Guard client PCs. The app displays basic client PC information, Autorun entries, alerts and other critical system information. CyCon also enables administrators to perform advanced functions such as quarantining suspicious Autorun entries.

Other features include FireTower Autorun Tagging Technology, which collects Autorun meta-information relevant to system performance, security and recovery in real time. This meta-information is used by individual FireTower product components to perform their designated tasks. Autorun Quarantine is performed in addition to Autorun authentication rating at host computers by FireTower Guard software for a real-time independent assessment based on on-site temporal operations of incoming software.

The standard Business platform is aimed at midmarket companies that don’t have their own Inter-Host Intrusion Prevention System (IHIPS) service, which means all Autorun authentication and data-mining are performed on Sampan Security’s server. However for businesses that do have the IT staff and hardware required to host and manage their own IHIPS service, Business Enhanced ensures all Autorun authentication and data-mining are performed on the company’s own private server.
