For users with growing collections of digital files, photos, videos or music files that they want to store, share and protect, Synology America has rolled out the DiskStation DS110j, a DLNA (digital living network appliance)-compliant network storage device.
The NAS (network-attached storage) solutions specialist launched in North America the DiskStation DS110j, a single-disk crossover NAS that offers improved performance, multimedia features and a complete backup solution. At a price point starting at around $149 (diskless), the device is positioned as an affordable solution for SOHO (small office/home office) networks running Microsoft Windows and Mac OS.
“Affordable and fully loaded, the DiskStation DS110j is perfect for use as a multimedia server, backup target or even set up as an affordable home surveillance system,” said Doug Self, product specialist at Synology America. “We are very happy with the price to performance ratio of the DiskStation DS110j, coming in at reading speeds of 45MB per second in Windows, and most importantly that we are able to deliver all of the integrated features and excellent engineering that we’re known for at entry-level prices. This means that finally anyone who’s serious about protecting and sharing their digital files, or enjoying their digital life style, will be able to.”
The DiskStation DS110j includes DSM 2.2, the latest version of DiskStation Manager, which boasts integrated features that are available right out of the box. Other features include the DNLA-compliant multimedia server, Web hosting, remote access, automatic backup, a surveillance station, photo sharing and a download station to help home office users access files while on the road and monitor parts of the house or office, all from within the functionality of the DSM 2.2’s user-friendly Web-based interface.
The DS110j features a design that is cable-less with a single bay capable of supporting up to a 2TB HDD. The design of the DS110j was developed with green features in mind and includes scheduled power on and off, which not only preserves power usage but also helps extend hard drive life.
Last week, the company announced the release of its five-bay DiskStation DS1010+, which it claims boasts write speeds that are 250 percent faster than its predecessor. The DS1010+ also includes DSM open firmware, expands up to 10 bays and is specifically designed for SMBs. The solution can expand its storage capacity horizontally from five bays to 10 whenever more storage is needed using the company’s separate DX510 Expansion Enclosure. It is available in both diskless and preinstalled configurations, with the diskless model currently shipping in the United States and Canada.
