Computer maker Toshiba announced the release of a series of refreshed, expanded and brand new notebooks under the Satellite brand, including the Satellite A665 three-dimensional-graphics-ready notebook powered by Nvidia 3D vision technology. The L-Series budget notebook family was expanded to offer more screen size choices, more color options and more configurations, as well as offering new Satellite T200 ultrathin notebooks. In addition, the company debuted the Satellite A665 and Satellite M645 Series entertainment notebooks, which feature TruBrite high-definition widescreen displays with LED backlighting.
Rounding out the series is the C600, a new line of entry-level notebooks starting under $500. Encased in Toshiba’s Trax textured finish (which helps resist fingerprints) in black, the C600 Series comes in 14-inch and 15.6-inch diagonal display options. The notebooks are also equipped with features like HD TruBrite widescreen displays, DDR3 (double data rate 3) RAM and hard drives ranging from 250GB to 320GB.
Equipped with a rewritable Blu-ray Disc drive, the 3D-ready A665 is also ready to support content playback in the Blu-ray 3D format. The notebook is powered by Intel’s Core i7 quad-core processor with TurboBoost technology, plus the Nvidia GeForce GTS 350M GPU with 1GB of video memory. The Nvidia 3D Vision kit, which comes standard with the A665, includes software, a pair of wireless active shutter glasses and an emitter. Toshiba listed the notebook, available June 20, at $1,599.99.
The A665 and M645 series laptops offer entertainment features such as Toshiba Sleep-and-Music, which allows users to play music through the notebook’s Harman Kardon speakers even when the laptop is powered down, and Resolution+ technology, which converts standard-definition movies and improves sharpness and color, the company said. In addition, some models featuring the Nvidia GeForce 310M and GeForce GT330M graphics processors also include Optimus technology, which provides improved graphics performance when needed and extends battery life. The A665 is priced at $799.99, while the M645 is listed at $729.99.
The T200 ultrathins are available in two screen sizes-the T235, featuring a 13.3-inch diagonal display, and the compact T215 featuring a 11.6-inch diagonal display. Measuring 1 inch thick and weighing less than 4 pounds, the notebooks are equipped with energy-efficient processor options from AMD and Intel. Both models feature HDMI ports and built-in Web cams, as well as Toshiba features such as USB Sleep-and-Charge, hard drive impact sensors, and the company’s Media Controller, ReelTime and Bulletin Board applications. The T200 series starts at $469.99.
The L600 Series consists of four model classes: the L645, with a 14-inch diagonal display, the L655, with a 15.6-inch diagonal display, and the L675 desktop replacement, with a 17.3-inch diagonal display. In addition, Toshiba is adding a new option to the line, the L635, featuring a 13-inch diagonal widescreen display. The notebooks offer up to 4GB of DDR3 memory and hard drives ranging from 250GB to 500GB. In addition, the notebooks are equipped with Toshiba’s power-saving Eco Utility, which the company said enables users to monitor and adjust their power consumption and settings in real time. The L600 series starts at $569.99.
