ZyXEL announced the 4-bay NAS540 network attached storage (NAS) solution for data access, which is equipped with advanced processing and fail-safe features.

The NAS540 covers a variety of high-performance cloud storage needs, from backing up office documents to streaming stored movie files to TVs and devices. USB ports and an SD card reader enable external data transfers at faster speeds.

“The explosion of data is putting a huge strain on current data storage solutions,” Steven Joe, executive vice president for channel business for Americas at ZyXEL, told eWEEK. “As consumers and professionals continue to rely heavily on smartphones to share content and access information, it’s critical that storage appliances not only provide maximum storage capacity, but that they are also easily accessible to consumers and professionals on the go.”

Its rich features, small business-friendly size, storage capacity and universal SATA drive compatibility make the NAS540 ideal for small businesses and pro consumers, Joe added.

Streaming stored multimedia content from the NAS540 is made possible with its built-in DLNA server, while HD and 4K content can be delivered to multiple TVs and devices simultaneously while maintaining quiet fan operation.

The NAS540’s diagnostic information can be viewed on its Web-based graphical user interface (GUI), allowing users to monitor and manage applications on the device, central processing unit (CPU) utilization and fan speed.

The NAS540’s 4-bay design gives users the flexibility to add as much as four 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA II hard disks with a max of up to 24 TB total memory.

Other features include RAID 1, 5, 6, or 10 support in order to safeguard data from hard disk failures and a screw-less design for quicker drive installation.

“With the usage of videos and data storage growing, all business will need this type of flexible storage expansion in the future,” Joe explained. “Video emails, chats and large files are just some examples.”

The NAS540 is priced at $312.99 and will be available this month for sale through the company’s authorized resellers and e-commerce partners.

The company also offers a line of 10-Gigabit Ethernet switches, WiFi routers, unified threat management (UTM) appliances and 802.11ac access points (APs) aimed at small- to medium-size businesses (SMBs).

The company’s latest router employs 802.11ac Wave 2 with Multi-user MIMO- (MU-MIMO) ready and band steering- ready hardware, and support for wireless speeds of up to 2.33 Gigabytes per second (Gbps).
