Dipping its toe into storage appliance waters for the first time, ATTO Technology on Feb. 7 unveiled its new FastStream 5300 hardware, which is built to add parity RAID protection, storage provisioning, and boosted performance speeds to any SCSI storage device attached to a storage system.
The ATTO FastStream 5300 fits within a slim 1U 19-inch rack and offers 4GB Fibre Channel SAN (storage area network) connectivity, along with Ultra320 interfaces that can plug directly into SCSI storage—to add into any waiting SAN architecture.
The new appliance is configurable against JBOD and RAID levels of up to 0, 1, 5 and 10 and offers more than 480MB per second throughput.
Designed to support and protect high-availability data streaming application deployments such as high-definition video, large database transactional environments, and digital post-production processes, the ATTO FastStream 5300 can alter, expand or mirror existing RAID volumes without impacting data, said Sherri Robinson, director, Markets, for Amherst, N.Y.-based ATTO.
Management and administration of the appliance is enabled through ATTOs ExpressNAV integrated management console.
The ExpressNAV Web-based console features point-and-click control of remote configuration, monitoring and diagnostics of storage subsystems.
ATTO produces storage connectivity and infrastructure products through its line of FC- and SCSI-based HBAs (host bus adapters).
Robinson said ATTO plans to release a new SAS-based HBA for customers around June.
The ATTO FastStream is priced at $6,995 and is currently available.
