Online file backup provider Carbonite, which made its reputation backing up consumer PCs but is steadily expanding into the small and midsize business market, revealed April 1 that it is making its Database Backup product available for online backup reseller partners to offer to their small-business clients.
Using Carbonite Database Backup along with the company’s regular cloud storage, resellers can now offer a complete files-and-database backup service package to small businesses.
Carbonite Database Backup can back up a range of databases, virtual machines and applications. These include Microsoft SQL Server, Exchange Server, SharePoint, Hyper-V, Oracle and MySQL. It also provides protection for an unlimited number of databases and live applications, the company said.
Boston-based Carbonite extended its SMB cloud storage market share when it acquired open-source-based Zmanda last fall.
It’s no secret why Carbonite and other storage providers are moving deeper into the enterprise marketplace. Despite the fast growth of unstructured data files, such as photos, video, documents and others, databases generally contain more information that is crucial to a business, including client data and financial records, email and payroll.
“A cloud backup solution that safeguards both a business’ computers and its critical databases is imperative for small businesses,” said David Hauser, senior director of Carbonite Channel Development. “And for resellers serving this market, being able to deliver a solution easily, affordably and securely implemented through one vendor is ideal.”
Resellers can now sell Database Backup as an add-on to Carbonite’s BusinessPremier cloud backup solution for small businesses, Hauser said.
Carbonite has seen an increase of more than 50 percent in its reseller partner community since June of last year, Hauser said. Using the new Carbonite Reseller Program, cloud backup resellers can offer Carbonite’s complete line of home and business solutions–which includes Home, HomePlus and HomePremier for home or home office users, and Business and BusinessPremier for small business users, Hauser said.
Carbonite’s backup solution runs on both the Windows and Mac platforms. The company has backed up more than 300 billion files, restored nearly 20 billion files and currently backs up about 350 million files each day, Hauser said. For information on the Carbonite reseller program, send an email here.
