Two competing Southern California storage infrastructure providers, Emulex of Costa Mesa and QLogic of nearby Aliso Viejo, announced Feb. 15 that they have begun shipping their new 4G bps Fibre Channel host bus adapters to Hewlett Packard for use in that companys Integrity server line.
Both companies have been key original equipment manufacturers for Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP for several years.
Emulexs LightPulse dual-channel and single-channel HBAs are shipping with Integrity rx6600 and rx3600 servers running Linux and Windows.
QLogics SANblade 2460 Series PCI Express HBAs are now available on the new HP Integrity rx2660 entry-level servers.
Emulexs single- and dual-channel 4G bps HBAs are also qualified to support SAN (storage area network) connectivity for the entire HP StorageWorks family of arrays, a company spokesperson said.
QLogic is already shipping 4G bps Fibre Channel PCI-X 2.0 HBAs for HP Integrity servers; thus the addition of the SANblade 2460s rounds out the SAN connectivity packages for HP systems.
The SANblade 2460 Series is compatible with all other QLogic HBAs and QMH2462 mezzanine cards, which now include HP-UX support, a QLogic spokesperson said.
Certified for HP Integrity rx6600 and rx3600 servers in HP-UX, Windows, Linux and OpenVMS environments, QLogics SANblade 2460 provides data protection, advanced frame routing and enterprise-wide system management capabilities, the spokesperson said.
The HP Integrity rx6600 and rx3600 are entry-class server platforms designed to be highly expandable; they feature workload consolidation and virtualization capabilities, the spokesperson said. HP Integrity entry-class servers are designed to attach to networked storage through all Emulex and QLogic SAN connectivity products.
In addition to HBAs, Emulex makes intelligent storage platforms and embedded storage products, including switches, bridges, routers and I/O controllers.
QLogic is a supplier of high-performance storage networking solutions, including HBAs, blade server embedded Fibre Channel switches, Fibre Channel stackable switches, iSCSI HBAs, iSCSI routers and storage services platforms for enabling advanced storage management applications.
