Portable storage solutions are becoming more popular as the amount of stored data continues to grow.

To address this need, Seagate Removable Storage Solutions LLC last week launched DiskStor, its first hard drive with a USB (Universal Serial Bus) connector.

The external drive, compatible with USB 1.1, includes digital photo management and data management software for secure, on-the-fly data protection, said officials with the Costa Mesa, Calif., company.

The drives cost $269 for the DiskStor 20 and $349 for the DiskStor 40. Both are shipping now.
