LAS VEGAS—EMC, which has been building machine homes for data and files since 1987 and providing enterprise-level software protection for that data for only a few years less, is now ramping up on its management of all that content.

At EMC World 2015 here at the Venetian, the storage giant May 4 revealed a new list of products and services aimed at improving the way business content is processed—including editing, deduplication, cataloging, accessing and anything else that needs to be done with it.

The umbrella name EMC’s Enterprise Content Division has given it is Project Horizon, not to be confused with VMware’s all-purpose Horizon virtualization package.

Project Horizon is a new multitenant cloud platform designed to enable CIOs and administrators to better manage a company’s business content for internal business use or outward marketing purposes. It also contains an apps marketplace, managed by EMC, which will include EMC- and partner-built apps and solutions that will fill in gaps for needed services.

Project Horizon runs on Pivotal CF, an enterprise platform-as-a-service powered by Cloud Foundry, which automates all digital content flows. It connects the dots by finding and harnessing data and analytics to automate mundane tasks or to provide predictive insights.

In addition, EMC announced that new versions of Documentum Capital Projects Express and Documentum Life Sciences Solutions Suite also will be available on Project Horizon.

      Key features include:

—Modular architecture: Built with a microservices-based architecture, Project Horizon is DevOps-ready. DevOps is a software development method that emphasizes communication, collaboration (information sharing and Web service usage), integration, automation and measurement of cooperation between software developers and other IT professionals. The architecture supports continuous integration and deployment, thereby enabling a cycle of innovation of days or weeks rather than months or even years. Each of these modules (or tiles) also will have an out-of-the-box app and the ability to embed that app to build solutions by assembling these modular blocks of functionalities. This enhances time to value and allows users to use what they need and pay only for what they use.

—Allows existing current-generation Documentum solutions based on D2 and xCP to be hosted on Project Horizon, enabling current users to continue to access its UI and platform services. New solutions to be hosted on Project Horizon include Documentum Capital Projects Express and Documentum Life Sciences Solutions Suite 4.0.

EMC World 2015 continues through May 7. More than 40,000 attendees are on-site. You can watch keynotes and other events on live stream here.
