EMC has launched two products geared toward storage management for midrange customers.
EMCs Visual SAN is a SAN management platform that allows IT managers to monitor the devices in their SANs. Some of the interesting new capabilities included in this package are the ability to perform configuration management (to keep track of firmware revisions and settings) and a useful performance analysis tool to monitor throughput over various SAN links.
EMCs new Visual SRM is a storage resource management solution that has the ability to monitor databases as well as standard file systems.
Although neither of the products is groundbreaking in terms of functionality, I believe both are important because they show EMC is pushing to be a real player in the storage management software space. Both products are due to ship this week.
