Seagate subsidiary i365 announced the expansion of its EVault Remote Disaster Recovery Service to further extend i365’s cloud-based storage solutions across multiplatform environments. The company noted the EVault RDR solution integrates i365’s range of EVault cloud-connected storage management offerings. Aimed at SMBs (small and midsize businesses), the service starts at $250 per month for a single server.
EVault Remote Disaster Recovery service is an extension of i365’s cloud-connected EVault backup and recovery services. As a cloud-based managed service, EVault RDR customers are guided by a team of i365 disaster recovery experts through testing and execution of the disaster recovery process. If disaster strikes, i365 DR experts work with EVault’s technology platform and SAS 70 Type II certified data center facilities to give customers access to their production systems. Employees then remotely access and use those applications in a secure virtual environment.
“Business continuity and disaster recovery are high priorities for SMBs, but many lack the infrastructure and resources to properly maintain a secondary, offsite location. In addition, IT investments in traditional enterprise DR service providers are often cost prohibitive and inflexible to meet the specific needs of SMBs,” said Brad Nisbet, program manager for IDC’s Storage and Data Management Services. “Cloud-based DR services, such as i365’s EVault RDR, offer SMBs a flexible and economical offsite alternative to protect data and systems operations in the event of a disaster.”
The new release extends the disaster recovery offering to cover heterogeneous environments i365 said are normally deployed by midmarket companies. The company also noted the service is capable of running on a range of operating systems, including IBM i, IBM AIX and Linux, in addition to Windows and VMware.
George Hoenig, vice president of products at i365, said small businesses often overlook data protection and disaster recovery as key components of their business applications strategy.
“A holistic data protection framework begins with securely backing up and replicating data to a cloud-connected infrastructure. The critical value of the framework lies in its ability to make data and operations securely and readily available to businesses from a remote solution in the event of a disaster,” he said. “With EVault RDR, companies have a lifeline to a virtual copy of their data to keep the business running. The entire disaster recovery process is tested and documented, and it’s all managed by a team of seasoned disaster recovery experts.”
