Iron Mountain Inc. Monday announced its new Data Restoration and Electronic Discovery Support service, for enterprise customers who need rapid recovery of vast information.

The service organizes data and makes full-text searches available, unlike other recovery services designed for just data conversions, explained Pete Delle Donne, president of Iron Mountains Enterprise Solutions and Services Division, in Boston.

The results are hosted in Iron Mountains Digital Archives service, are viewable though a Web interface, and can be shared with legal organizations, officials said.

Also, the data is verified to be single instance and virus-free, to have a provable history of its originator, and a digital signature. “We had to add new technology to be able to ensure that we could scale for volume,” Delle Donne added.

“The companies that need that kind of restoration have to recover two to three years worth of data in a very short time frame, usually 60-90 days, and be able to assert [it] in legal court. Theres a good portion of pre-processing and manual labor,” he said.

The service, available now, is priced based on the quantity of disk mounting and transportation, the time frame its needed by, and the time frame its archived for, he said.

In the next few months, Iron Mountain will expand the searches to Spanish and Portuguese, he said. Other international languages and legal requirements will be addressed depending on customer needs, he said.
