MegaPath Hosted Data Backup, Storage Offering Aimed at Small Businesses

MegaPath, a provider of managed data, voice and security services, announced the availability of its hosted data backup and storage offering for businesses. With this offering and the company’s new hosted Microsoft Exchange and hosted Microsoft SharePoint collaboration services, MegaPath is broadening its data management portfolio for small and midsize businesses (SMBs) on a limited IT budget.

The company€™s hosted data backup and storage services allow businesses to remotely back up the data on their servers and PCs, and restore their data after a loss. The service leverages an installation wizard, enabling IT staff to schedule data backups; there is no hardware to purchase or tapes to maintain.

To deliver the off-site data storage solution, MegaPath partnered with Mozy, an online backup service for consumers and businesses. The backup customer data is stored remotely at data centers with secure card and biometric authorization, redundant power systems, multiple network providers and cooling measures. If needed, organizations have access to in-client, in-Windows, Web-based or DVD data restore options.

“From natural and man-made disasters, to hardware malfunctions and accidental file deletions, data can disappear at a moment’s notice, and it is essential that organizations of all sizes have a backup solution in place to easily recover that information,” said Dan Foster, president of business markets at MegaPath. “Through our partnership with Mozy, one of the industry’s leading backup service providers, and with our secure to the core network, MegaPath is delivering a reliable and cost-effective cloud-based solution that safeguards our customers’ information and promotes business continuity.”

According to a recent study of 708 IT and administrative practitioners working in organizations with 250 or fewer employees, almost all small health care organizations have had a data breach in the past 12 months. The Ponemon Institute study, “Data Security in Small Healthcare Organizations,” sponsored by MegaPath, concluded that the biggest threats continue to be negligent employees and the inability to meet compliance requirements.

In March, MegaPath released a suite of cloud-based hosted collaboration services, which are available as part of the company€™s Complete Office solution. Hosted Microsoft Exchange is a productivity solution featuring corporate-class email for enhanced employee communication, while Hosted Microsoft SharePoint is a collaboration and content management platform that provides organizations with tools for centralized management that can be customized and integrated into a variety of platforms and used on virtually any device.
