A new appliance from Netezza Corp. promises to increase the performance of business intelligence queries by 10 to 20 times.
The Netezza Performance Server 8000, or NPS, combines server, storage and database technologies in one appliance that acts as a standalone data warehouse. In this way it is optimized to handle the exploding amount of business data that is being kept today.
Introduced this week, the NPS 8000 devices Intelligent Query Streaming feature optimizes the flow of data into and out of business intelligence applications by filtering out streaming data that would be irrelevant to the query at hand. It captures data in silicon processors placed right next to the storage disks output to provide the highest performance.
The NPS 8000 has an Asymmetric Massively Parallel Processing architecture that is designed for scalability, said officials at the Framingham, Mass.-based startup. This architecture combines elements of SMP and MPP architectures.
Pricing for the NPS starts at $622,000 for a configuration with 4.5 terabytes of storage. Configurations with up to 18 terabytes of storage are also available. Larger configurations are due out next year, Netezza officials said.
