Oracle filled a gap in its storage and content-management portfolio with the acquisition of Louisville, Colo.-based Front Porch Digital.
Terms of the deal, announced Sept. 15, were not revealed by Oracle.
Front Porch’s content-storage manager connects on-site and cloud data storage. It is a purpose-built system designed to simplify complex workflows inherent in migrating, managing and marketing enterprise media assets.
Its customers, including A&E Television and the Library of Congress, use Front Porch to manage and monetize their expanding volumes of digital media content, such as high-definition video, medical records and real-time security monitoring feeds.
Key features of the Front Porch system include customer engagement management, in-browser notifications, WiFi monetization, in-browser Messaging, BSS/OSS (business support systems/operations support systems) and subscriber care.
“Organizations need a modern, integrated content storage management solution to manage and monetize their valuable rich media assets,” John Fowler, executive vice president of Oracle Systems, said in a press statement. “We will continue to build on Front Porch Digital’s success and unique capabilities, which complement Oracle’s existing high-performance and scalable engineered storage solutions.”
Front Porch brings to Oracle some big media customers, such as the two noted above, plus about 550 others worldwide. Those include the BBC, Discovery Communications, and NASCAR. Overall, Front Porch Digital helps manage more than 750 petabytes of digital content.
Front Porch, privately held and founded in 1998, has about 200 employees. In addition to Louisville, Colo., it has offices in New Jersey and in France.
