In the Aug. 4 issue, eWEEK Technology Editor Peter Coffee reviewed a number of new tools that mine business data and return meaningful analysis (click here to see review).

Cognos next month will release another product that increases companies business intelligence quotient, ReportNet. A Web-based reporting application that competes with products such as Crystal Decisions Crystal Reports, ReportNet makes it easy to develop and deliver business reports. Via Web services standards and a metadata layer that shields users from database complexity, ReportNet can pull information from various data sources and integrate with existing security infrastructure. During a demonstration of the product, I was impressed with the speed and ease with which ReportNet built reports on the fly. Pricing for ReportNet will be announced Sept. 9, at the products launch. eWEEK Labs plans a full review in a future issue.
