      • 3PAR Offers Bare-Metal Provisioning for Solaris Servers

3PARdata Inc., a Fremont, Calif., utility storage vendor, has announced that its bare-metal provisioning is available for Solaris-based servers.

The goal, according to 3PAR president David Scott, is to allow users to manage server farms more efficiently, deploy Solaris servers faster and more easily, and simplify the process of implementing software patches and upgrades to Solaris server farms.

The first goal can be achieved using 3PAR Virtual Copy, a software utility, while the second can be achieved by using 3PAR Thin Provisioning and volume management capabilities.

The first result of the collaboration will be a Fibre Channel Mezzanine card based on Emulex technology for the HP BladeSystem that will run in both Linux and Windows environments.

Following the first collaboration, Emulex and HP will continue collaborating through HPs BladeSystem Solution Builder program.

SGI will add LSI Logics single and dual-port 4GB-per-second Fibre Channel HBAs (Host Bus Adapters) to its SGI InfiniteStorage TP9700 4GB-per-second storage array, providing a non-disruptive 4GB-per-second storage infrastructure that performs faster, according to Lisa Kimball, product manager for Fibre Channel HBAs at LSI Logic.

SGI also has added the Brocade SilkWorm 48000 Director and SilkWorm 200E Switch to its InfiniteStorage portfolio, providing more of an end-to-end 4GB-per-second solution, according to Gabriel Broner, senior vice president for SGIs storage and software group.
